Testimonials & Shared Journeys

Why do you need a doula in Singapore?

  • You find the medical system very confusing to navigate, and it’s so difficult to find the information you are looking for.

  • You feel alone and judged about the way you want to birth or the way you want to parent. You want someone to advocate for what feels right.

  • You just know there is more to the birth and/or baby experience than what everyone is telling you, but you’re unsure of how to reach it.

Your Birth, Your Way: Honoring Choice When Birthing in Singapore

Where is the “norm” for welcoming a baby? In Singapore, most people immediately think of a hospital. We believe that people should choose where they feel safest to birth their babies and for many, a hospital is just the place. However, there are birthers who dream of something different. For some, the hospital environment feels less aligned with their vision of an empowered birth experience. if this resonates with you, this page is for you.

Singapore’s birth culture is obstetrician-led, meaning the provider in charge of your care during pregnancy and birth is an obstetrician. Midwifery-led care is not recognized in Singapore, so it’s critical to find an obstetrician whose philosophy of care aligns with yours. Do they believe in your ability to birth your baby the way you want to?

Due to Singapore’s birth culture, it is not well-known that birthers have birth options aside from hospitals. If you have a typical, low-risk pregnancy, you may be cleared for a home birth by your obstetrician. Research also demonstrates that for birthers with a low-risk pregnancy, home births are a safe option for both birther and baby (Scarf et al., 2018). It is very different from what many people imagine birth to be like, but it is no less beautiful.

We support options in birth. We want our clients to have choices, to feel confident to make those choices. Come for our classes or schedule a call with us to learn more.
