Our Doulas
-
Gem Tan, Lead Doula & Co-Founder
Gem's (she/her) path to doula'ing began in her childhood. Mothers were, and are, the shoulders upon which she gratefully stands on. Through her undergraduate and postgraduate research with feminist, fertility, and childbirth anthropologists, as well as with birthing families, Gem learned that their strength and courage are silently hard-earned. She decided to become a doula because she wanted to actively support and empower parents, and to pay forward the care she has received.
Gem is a certified Birth and Postpartum doula (iBirth Professionals, Childbirth International), having attended over 90 births in both homes and hospitals. Additionally, she has trained in Optimal Maternal Positioning®️ and Birth Cartography®️ and undertaken courses with Evidence Based Birth ®️ Academy to guide birthing couples through this powerful chapter of their new lives. She loves that she is able to incorporate her past life as a student of reproductive anthropology into her current one as a doula, to empower birthing families and to help build a better birth culture.
